Transferring a Cradlepoint Modem to a Different NetCloud Account
Moving a Cradlepoint modem from one NetCloud account to another requires careful steps to ensure a smooth transition and avoid downtime. This guide walks you through unregistering the device from its current account and registering it with a new one by directly accessing the modem's local administration page.
Before You Begin
Ensure you have the following ready:
| Requirement | Description |
|---|---|
| Physical Access | You must be physically present with the Cradlepoint modem |
| Power Supply | Ensure the modem remains powered on throughout the process |
| New NetCloud Credentials | Username and password for the destination NetCloud account |
| Local Admin Password | The modem's local administration password (default is on the modem sticker) |
| Internet Access | Optional but recommended for verification in NetCloud Manager |
[Backup Your Settings]
If your modem has complex configurations (custom Wi-Fi settings, port forwarding rules, etc.), back up the configuration or note them down before proceeding. Basic settings usually remain intact.
Step 1: Connect to the Cradlepoint Modem
You have two options for connecting to the modem's local administration page:
Option A: Wi-Fi Connection
- Find the Wi-Fi Name (SSID) - Look for the network name printed on a sticker on your Cradlepoint modem. It often starts with "CP-" or "Cradlepoint-"
- Connect to the Network - On your computer or mobile device, search for available Wi-Fi networks and connect to the Cradlepoint's SSID
- Enter Wi-Fi Password - Enter the Wi-Fi password (also called "Pre-Shared Key" or "Default Password") found on the same sticker
Option B: Ethernet Connection
- Connect Ethernet Cable - Use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer directly to one of the LAN ports on the Cradlepoint modem
- Verify Connection - Ensure your computer obtains an IP address from the modem
Step 2: Access the Local Administration Page
Open a Web Browser - Launch Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, or another browser
Enter the IP Address - In the address bar, type
192.168.0.1and press Enter:::note This is the default IP address for most Cradlepoint modems. If it doesn't work, check your modem's documentation or sticker for its specific local IP address. :::
Log In with these credentials:
- Username:
admin(case-sensitive) - Password: The modem's local administration password (found on the modem sticker if unchanged)
- Username:
Step 3: Unregister from the Old Account
Navigate to NetCloud Management - Look for a menu option labeled "NetCloud," "System," "Cloud Management," or "Account"
Common path: System > NetCloud
Unregister/Disconnect - On the NetCloud management page, click "Unregister," "Disconnect from NetCloud," or similar
Confirm Unregistration - Confirm when prompted
Wait for Confirmation - The modem will process the unregistration (1-2 minutes). The page may refresh or show a confirmation message
Step 4: Register with the New Account
Remain on the NetCloud Management Page - After unregistering, registration options should appear
Select "Register" or "Connect" - Click the button to begin registration
Enter New NetCloud Credentials:
- Account Username: Enter the new NetCloud account username
- Account Password: Enter the associated password
Start Registration - Click "Next," "Register," or "Connect"
Wait for Registration - This can take several minutes
:::caution Do not power off the modem during registration. :::
Verify Status - The page should indicate successful connection, often displaying the account name or ID
Step 5: Verify in NetCloud Manager
Log into NetCloud Manager - Open a browser and go to netcloud.cradlepoint.com
Log In to the New Account - Use the new NetCloud account credentials
Check Devices - Navigate to the "Devices" or "Routers" section
Confirm Modem Presence - Your Cradlepoint modem should now be listed under the new account
:::note It may take a few minutes for the modem's status to fully update in NetCloud Manager. :::
Troubleshooting
Cannot Access Local Admin Page
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Page won't load | Double-check the IP address (192.168.0.1) |
| No connection | Ensure Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection is properly established |
| Still not working | Try a different web browser |
| Blocked connection | Temporarily disable VPN or firewall software |
Incorrect Local Admin Password
- Check the sticker on the modem for the default password
- If the password was changed and you don't know it, you may need to perform a factory reset (this erases all custom configurations)
- Consult your modem's manual for factory reset instructions
Registration Fails
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Credentials rejected | Double-check username and password for typos |
| License error | Ensure the new NetCloud account has available device licenses |
| Connection error | Verify the modem has an active internet connection |
| Persistent failure | Restart the modem and try again |
Modem Not Appearing in New Account
- Wait up to 15-20 minutes for the modem to fully connect and report status
- Refresh the NetCloud Manager page
- Check the modem's local admin page to confirm it shows as "Connected" to NetCloud
