Field Quick Start

Get your mobile base station running in 5 minutes for field deployments.

Equipment Checklist

Before heading to the field:

  • FastRTK Mobile Base Station (Pelican case)
  • GNSS antenna
  • Tripod with 5/8"-11 adapter
  • Charged battery (or external power)
  • Cellular SIM card (if using NTRIP)
  • Radio antenna (if using UHF)
  • Known point coordinates (if available)

Quick Setup (5 Minutes)

Step 1: Position the Base (1 min)

  1. Set up tripod over your base point
  2. Level the tripod
  3. Mount GNSS antenna on tripod
  4. Orient antenna arrow toward north

Step 2: Power On (30 sec)

  1. Open Pelican case
  2. Press power button
  3. Wait for LED indicators to illuminate

Step 3: Access Dashboard (1 min)

  1. On your phone/tablet, connect to WiFi: FastRTK
  2. Open browser and go to: http://192.168.25.1
  3. Verify satellite tracking on dashboard

Step 4: Set Coordinates (1 min)

Choose one:

Method When to Use
Enter Known Over surveyed control point
Average Here Unknown point, relative accuracy OK
RTK Position Connected to CORS network

Step 5: Start Broadcasting (1 min)

For UHF Radio:

  1. Navigate to RTK Streaming > Settings
  2. Enable radio
  3. Set frequency and protocol
  4. Verify LED flashing indicates transmission

For NTRIP:

  1. Verify cellular connection
  2. Check mountpoint status
  3. Share credentials with rover users

Step 6: Connect Rover (30 sec)

Configure rover with:

  • Caster: 192.168.25.1 (WiFi) or base IP
  • Port: 10000
  • Mountpoint: Your mountpoint name
  • Credentials: NTRIP username/password

Troubleshooting

Issue Quick Fix
No WiFi Wait 30 sec after power on
No satellites Check antenna connection
Radio not transmitting Verify coordinates are set
Rover won't connect Check credentials and mountpoint
Float only Wait 1-2 min, check sky view

End of Day

  1. Note base coordinates if you'll return tomorrow
  2. Power off the base station
  3. Secure equipment in Pelican case
  4. Download RINEX data if needed

  • Same spot tomorrow? Write down the coordinates to speed up setup
  • Battery low? Connect external 12V or solar panel while running
  • No cell service? UHF radio works without any network
